What is VSCYPAA?

VSCYPAA started in the early fall of 1996, to address the needs of young newcomers in Virginia. The VSCYPAA Committee and Conference provides an opportunity for young AA’s from Virginia and surrounding areas to come together and share their experience, strength, and hope as young people in Alcoholics Anonymous. YPG’s, young people’s conferences in other cities, states and countries, and the International Conference of Young People in AA are visible evidence that large numbers of young people can achieve lasting and fruitful sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous. Experience has shown that AA’s, of all ages, who participate in activities held by YPG’s have gained a better understanding of young people. With this new understanding, they return to their homegroups better prepared to receive young people who come to AA in hopes of finding a better way of life. More

Young People and AA...

Young People and AA

Coming into A.A. as young people, we found that there were common challenges to face. In the beginning, we often feel we are too young to be alcoholics. Some of us didn’t drink for a long time; others didn’t drink hard liquor, stumble around, or forget what we did or said when drunk. Being young in the everyday world we face peer pressure, stressful relationships with our parents, and parties being a way of life. In A.A., we often feel different because we may be the youngest person in our group, and some have even had an uninformed older member discourage us by saying things like “I spilled more booze than you drank.” More
